MVP Collections Launches it’s Spring/Summer Line

MVP Collections might have launched eight months ago, but they already circulated a lot of attention this past year.

Maurice Samuel “Mo” Vaughn is the creator of this new image for men of all sizes that the fashion industry seemed to forget about. Mo is a former  Major League Baseball first basemen whom he along with his team is helping change lives and bring confidence amongst this spectrum of the “All-American Man.”

MVP Collections is all about lifestyle and streetwear with all their pieces made in the USA, the quality of the collection is easily hands down one of the best you’ll get in this era of brands based off fast-fashion.

We don’t see a lot of American made brands that keep up with the latest trends such as the in demand “motto” jeans and the curved hem t-shirts. This season you will see a lot of color-blocking, a pair of white deconstructed jeans (perfect for an outing to the Hamptons this summer), vintage washed t-shirts and fully lined blazers. There is even a best-seller logo tee of a bulldog, which is in reference to Mo Vaughn’s very own bulldog. This collection shares a personal experience with the founders and customers.

Gentlemen's curb plus male blogger

When I got the news that Mo’ Vaughn started a clothing line catered to plus males/brawn/big and tall men, I was absolutely excited. Mo Vaughn had a standout career in MLB. Here we have a man of size who is an established athlete and a champion. It’s only fitting that men of size are equated with this level of excellence. I felt honored to collaborate, especially because it shatters stereotypes that men of size aren’t gifted athletically.

Mo knows fashion: Former MLB slugger promotes clothing line in Huntsville

For the longest time, Mo Vaughn found shopping for clothes to be a frustrating experience.

The former slugger and 1995 American League MVP has always been a big guy - he's 6-foot-1 and weighed between 225 and 275 pounds during his 13-year Major League career - and finding stylish clothes that fit his large frame was a challenge. Vaughn, 49, made millions while playing from 1991-2003, so he could afford tailored-made threads, but what about the everyday man? Vaughn was empathetic to their plight and decided to do something.

Vaughn, along fashion industry veteran Diane Cutuli, launched the MVP Collections line of big-and-tall apparel last August.

"This thing started because I was the customer for big-and-tall clothes," Vaughn said.

Vaughn was in Huntsville on Saturday for the Full Figured Fierce Fashion Show at UAH. A group of models helped him show off MVP Collections, which includes 1XL-5XL and 2XLT-5XL shirts and jackets, plus 38- to 54-inch denim jeans.

To get his brand started, Vaughn went to Cutuli, a friend of 20-plus years. Her previous experience was in women's' clothing, but she knew the ins-and-outs of the fashion world and had seen the increasing demand for big-and-tall and plus-size clothing.

Fashion Rule Breakers: This Brand Is Paying Attention To A Category Most Others Are Ignoring — Plus-Size Men

Men have largely been left out of the body positivity movement.

Fashion Rule Breakers is an original A Plus Lifestyle series: Each month, we profile a fashion designer, model, organization, or icon who is a fashion rule breaker — someone who acts outside mainstream industry standards to make a positive difference.

Women labeled as plus-size have landed the coveted covers of magazines such as Vogue, Glamour, and even Sport Illustrated's swimsuit issue, and have become ambassadors for major campaigns. At this year's New York Fashion Week (NYFW), more plus-size female models walked the runway styled among straight-size models. But while models such as Ashley Graham and Iskra Lawrence have become household names, most would be hard-pressed to think of a single plus-size male model.

That's because these men, also called "big and tall" or "brawn," have largely been left out of the conversation when it comes to body positivity. While more and more brands in the fashion industry are working to become inclusive for plus-size women, few have considered adding clothing for plus-size men to their collections. But the truth is that many of these men are fed up with the boxy, old fashioned clothes on the rack. They want to wear quality clothes that make them look and feel great. They want the option to purchase outfits that reflect their style and personality instead of just outdated basics.

MVP Collections, a new brand that offers plus-size men trend-driven fashion, may just be the answer they've been looking for.

By creating a place for plus-size men to shop for stylish clothing, MVP Collections co-founders Mo Vaughn and Diane Cutuli are being fashion rule breakers.
